Cabinet Maintenance - How To Clean Your Custom Cabinets

Cleaning custom cabinets does not have to be a dreaded task to look forward to. Their maintenance is simple. Most custom cabinetry requires water, a soft cloth, and sometimes a mild detergent. Let’s highlight the easy cleaning process you can expect to take on at regular intervals.

AFTER INSTALLATION

Once your custom cabinets are installed, you will want to wipe them down thoroughly with a soft damp cloth. Afterwards, you will want to dry them completely with a dry cloth. A high-quality polish that’s void of silicone or waxes can then be applied to aid in the prevention of scratches, stains, and moisture.

CLEANING AT INTERVALS

About every two weeks, (depending on your kitchen use) you can gently wipe down your cabinets with a damp cloth. This will aid in the removal of any fingerprints, smudges, or grime that has collected on the cabinets’ surfaces. If difficult dirt and grime are resistant to the damp cloth, a mild dish detergent can be added to the cloth for gentle scrubbing. Always wipe in the direction of the wood grain, rinse, and completely dry with another cloth.

Occasionally, when grease or other substances have built up on any cabinet surface, a paste of water and baking soda can be used to gently remove the excess substance.

NEVER USE THE FOLLOWING

These are a list of items you should avoid using on your custom cabinetry…products that contain bleach, ammonia, citric acid, abrasives, and solvents. Additionally, it is unwise to use paint thinner, fingernail polish remover, and scouring pads on your custom cabinetry.
